Sunday BestJournalTPG's October valuations peg United at 1.2 cents and Capital One at 1.85 cents. Upgraded Points' August valuations put Hilton at 0.5 cents and Hyatt at 1.4 cents.

United MileagePlus miles and Capital One miles have different current values, according to valuation and redemption guides. United miles have gained value because United restricts award space to its own members, while Capital One miles can be redeemed at a fixed 1 cent or transferred to airline and hotel partners for more.
Milesopedia reported that BMO Blue Points are worth 0.67 cents each under the official formula of 1,500 points for $10, applied to in-store and e-gift card redemptions. The same rate applies to BMO Rewards, but the two balances cannot be transferred.
One Mile at a Time argued that United MileagePlus miles were increasing in value not because United made awards cheaper, but because it stopped releasing most Polaris business-class awards to partner frequent flyer programs and made reasonably priced award space exclusive to MileagePlus elite members and co-branded cardholders. The writer now values United miles at 1.3 to 1.4 cents, up from 1.1 cents.
Credit Karma said its latest assessment was conducted in winter 2026. The methodology compares the dollar cost of real airline and hotel bookings with the points or miles required, and uses separate standard and optimizer values for flexible programs that allow transfers. It says travelers should treat these as benchmarks, not exact amounts.
Thrifty Traveler laid out how to redeem Capital One miles. The simplest method is to cover travel purchases at 1 cent per mile, including flights, hotels, Airbnb, trains, tours and rideshares. For higher value, travelers can transfer miles to nearly 20 partners, including Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways, Virgin Red, Japan Airlines, Emirates, Wyndham and Choice. Transfer bonuses of 15 to 40 percent periodically appear. One example: transferring 29,000 miles to Virgin Red can book business class to London from East Coast cities.
On October 1, 2026, The Points Guy published monthly valuations: United MileagePlus at 1.2 cents, Capital One at 1.85 cents, Chase Ultimate Rewards at 2.05, American Express Membership Rewards at 2.0, Bilt at 2.2, Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards at 1.55, and Avianca LifeMiles at 1.6, up from 1.55. For hotels, Hilton Honors was valued at 0.4 cents, Marriott Bonvoy at 0.75, and Hyatt at 1.65. TPG calculates some airline values using data from Points Path, and hotel values using Gondola.
Upgraded Points released August 2026 valuations that differ from TPG's. It puts American Express Membership Rewards at 2.2 cents, Chase at 2.0, Capital One at 1.8, Citi at 1.6, Alaska at 1.6, United at 1.2, Hilton at 0.5, and Hyatt at 1.4. The site emphasizes that transfer partners are the way to achieve these values.
The story now: United miles are more useful for travelers who hold United status or a co-branded card, while flexible currencies like Chase and Amex remain high, and Capital One's option to cover travel purchases and its transfer partners offer ways to redeem miles.
