British Airways resumed flights to Sri Lanka on 24 October, landing a Boeing 777-200ER at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake. The flight, BA2045 from London Gatwick, landed in the morning. The airline said the route is seasonal, running only for the winter schedule.

It will operate three times each week, with economy, premium economy and business class cabins. Advantis Aviation Services, part of Sri Lanka's Hayleys Group, will act as general sales agent in the country.

Local outlets gave different lengths for the break in service. Newswire and the Bangladesh Monitor reported a 10-year hiatus, while the Hiru News headline said 11 years. The resumption follows about a decade without British Airways flights to Sri Lanka, according to the Bangladesh Monitor.

The return is seen as a lift for Sri Lankan tourism, with the UK a key source market, local media reports said. It is also expected to aid business travel and deepen commercial, tourism and personal links.
